These have been around for a very long time but despite their longevity there still are some Zippo hand warmer problems that you’ll want to look out for.
How Does It Work?
These hand warmers are kind of cool. One great thing about them is that they can last up to 12 hours on one fill of fluid.
You just remove the top cover, light the top with a lighter, a match or a zippo and then put the lid back on.
It comes with a little sleeve that you slip it into which gives it a softer touch when holding onto it.
Then you’ll feel it start to warm up and you’re ready to go. Once it’s been lit you can hold onto it for warmth or keep it in your pocket so that it’s ready anytime you need it.
They are very reliable and there’s no doubt about it, they do warm your hands up.
Although there are many benefits to these hand warmers, there are some downsides.
Problems
I have several complaints about these hand warmers. Personally I prefer heated gloves to these and I’ll tell you exactly why.
Can’t turn them off: Once you light the Zippo hand warmer it just stays on until the fluid is all burnt out.
Sure it’s not going to do any harm if you just set it down and let it burn out but the problem is that if you only want to use it for a few hours you’ll be wasting a lot of lighter fluid.
Too Big: These things aren’t really that small. They are about the size of a cell phone and so when you have them in your pocket you really notice them.
You Need Two: The way these things work best is if you have one in each pocket and then you can put your hands in your pockets for a quick shot of warmth. The problem with that is then you have two big pieaces of steel in your pockets and it’s not exactly comfortable.
Not Good For Recreating: Often when I’m doing activities that make my hands cold I’m recreating. It can be anything like Skiing, shovelling snow, riding a motorcycle or other utility vehicle.
The problem is that for all of those activities you need to use your hands a lot. That’s why I prefer heated gloves to these types of hand warmers. With heated gloves you have full use of your hands while being active.
Final Thoughts
So I do like these hand warmers for certain occasions but overall I much prefer heated gloves as a way to keep my hands warm and of course heated slippers for my feet.
There are so many different types of heated gloves out there that you can almost always find some that suit your needs.

HI there,
That actually looks like an awesome product, it might be a bit bulky to carry. ON cold nights or days you can certainly get the attention of those that are cold and want some heat (i’m talking girls here!) and use it as a way to get and possibly maintain attention..and ice breaker so to speak (pardon the pun!).
Haha I never thought of that but you might be on to something. Ya the product itself does work. Although my article seems like I’m being negative about it I’m really just trying to let people know what the downfalls of it are so that they can make an informed decision.
Cheers,
Robert
Hi Robert…love the gloves. I think the hand warmers have their use, too:)
Cheers,
Dawn 😀
Hey Dawn,
Thanks for the comment. I agree that the hand warmers have their use. I really do think that heated gloves are amazing though. Glad you like them.

To turn them off, simply take of the burner. Working on cars one always pops out of my pocket and the burner comes off. Then I relight it. Use a towel, or paper towel to do it. Even your shirt tail. Very inexpensive heat source.
