Overview

I’m really excited to write this review because these gloves happen to be my absolute favorite.

The Outdoor Research Flurry gloves are the ideal pair of gloves to wear for normal everyday activities and that’s why I get so much use out of them.

I wear these gloves way more than any other pair of gloves I own. Sure I love heated gloves for those crazy cold days or work gloves for when I’m doing manual labor but that’s not everyday.

Most days I just need a pair of gloves that are warm enough for an average winter day, comfortable enough for long periods of time and compact enough to carry around with me all the time.

That’s exactly what you get with the Flurry.

Just to show you how much I’ve worn mine I took a few pictures of them so you can get an idea.

So as you can see I’ve used these a lot. I’ve washed them quite a few times too. I just throw them in with my regular laundry and then hang dry them. They come out like new.

I’ve had these gloves for 4 years and so I can’t really complain about them even if they have started to deteriorate a little bit which I’ll talk about later on under the “Quality” section.

Comfort

I originally bought these gloves because when I tried them on in the store they just felt nice. I remember thinking that it was a little bit expensive for such a basic looking pair of gloves but I knew that OR was a high end brand and so I figured I would splurge.

They’re made of polyester but the exterior actually feels more like wool when you touch it. You can see in the one picture that I show that the interior of them is more of a fleece like material even though it’s actually wool.

They fit really nice. Not too loose but not too tight. A very relaxed feel which is exactly what you want when you’re planning on wearing them a lot.

There are barely any seams on them which helps with the comfort.

They’re extremely breathable which is awesome for being active and keeping the sweat away from your body but maybe not so great for colder or windy days.

There’s no gauntlet because they’re pretty short. They just barely cover my wrist bone so they’re not good for going over the jacket sleeve but they’re perfect for tucking under your jacket.

The dexterity is pretty good. I’d say it’s above average but nothing to write home about.

Unfortunately they aren’t compatible with touchscreen devices but that’s by no means a deal breaker.

Warmth

As I mentioned before, they’re extremely breathable which makes them less warm so you probably don’t want to wear these for sub zero conditions.

With that being said they do provide a good amount of warmth. Especially considering how compact they are.

I wear them anywhere from 14 degrees Fahrenheit (-10 Celcius) to about 45 degrees Fahrenheit (7 Celcius).

So they have a pretty good range even though they aren’t meant for extreme cold conditions. It’s all about wearing the right gear for the right temperature and these gloves give you a pretty large window.

The usefulness of these gloves also depends on the climate where you live. If you live in a climate that has that range of temperature a lot then you’ll absolutely love these gloves.

Water Resistance

So they aren’t really great in wet conditions. They aren’t designed to be waterproof so they won’t keep your hands dry in rain but they do okay in wet snow.

I find that unless I’m handling snow a lot like building snow men or having a snowball fight they do just fine.

If you do a lot of walking, hiking, snow shoeing or any other outdoor activity where you aren’t required to handle the snow then you’ll have no problems with these gloves.

The exterior actually wicks away the moisture pretty well considering they aren’t a rain glove.

Features

As you can see by looking at the pictures above they have a little plastic clip on the side so you can clip them together when you’re not wearing them.

I use this religiously because it decreases the likely hood of losing one of them.

They also have the little pull cord on the inside of the wrist that you can pull on to help put the gloves on. I used this feature a lot until the one broke which I showed in the picture.

They have silicon grip pads on the palm and finger tips which helps a lot especially if you’re always carrying something like a dog leash or a ski pole.

Aside from that they’re pretty basic. They didn’t reinvent the wheel here and I think that’s a good thing in this case.

Quality

As you can see by the pictures my pair of gloves have started to deteriorate a little bit. Nothing too serious and not bad considering I’ve worn them so much over the last 4 years.

But, the pull-on loop is broken and the silicon on the index finger and thumb is worn off.

Those are the only two things that have gone wrong and I have to reiterate that I have used and abused these gloves over the last 4 years.

I have to say that the quality of them is top notch. It’s just what I would have expected from Outdoor Research and it’s the same quality you can get from the Lucent model as well.

Final Thoughts

I think that by now you have a pretty good idea where I stand on these gloves. I love them. If I ever loose them I’ll for sure buy another pair.

The only thing I would complain about is the fact that they don’t work with a touchscreen device. Since I’m wearing these gloves so often I would like to be able to use my phone without taking them off.

Maybe by the time I go to buy a second pair they will have added that capability.

Here’s a video showcasing them.

The Outdoor Research Flurry gloves are a very good buy and I can assure you that you’ll be happy with them for a long long time.

Thanks for stopping by and if you have any questions please use the field below and I’ll be sure to respond ASAP.

Cheers,

Robert
