Overview
At first glance the Joe Rocket Velocity 2.0 gloves are nothing short of disappointing to be brutally honest.
They’re a budget pair of gloves and they really look it. They just cannot be making a good first impression on anyone because they look as good as they cost and that’s just appalling.
Usually I’m a fan of Joe Rocket and in my opinion some of their gloves are fantastic value for money.
The Joe Rocket Velocity 2.0 come in a few colors so at least you can match them to your other gear if that’s important to you.
A very poor first impression but am I judging them too harshly before looking deeper into the gloves specifications?
Comfort and Dexterity
If there’s going to be any section I’d hope the Joe Rocket Velocity 2.0 gloves would perform okay it’d be comfort and dexterity and to be honest for this category at least they’re not too bad.
The gloves are intended to be a summer glove meaning that it’s important they’re fairly lightweight and breathable and they are.
The gloves are very lightweight and very comfortable. The interior of the glove is formed of a very soft material making them feel nice on the skin and to top it off they fit very well too.
I found the Velocity 2.0 to be very true to size.
The gloves also have a hook and loop closure which kept the glove fixed securely in place.
Although I do prefer an elasticated cuff you can’t be fussy when it comes to a budget glove.
Not a bad performance on comfort and dexterity.
Warmth
The Joe Rocket Velocity 2.0 gloves are very thin and so have pretty much zero heat retention but as they’re a summer glove this isn’t important.
They are very well ventilated and breathable but part of me wants to say this is a coincidence.
Sometimes a breeze will feel like it passes straight through the glove and I’m not sure if Joe Rocket intended this or if it’s just because they’ve used fairly cheap materials for the glove.
So based on warmth the gloves don’t perform badly but I suspect it’s a complete accident that they’ve done okay.
Water Resistance
Water resistance isn’t really a necessity for the Joe Rocket Velocity 2.0 gloves given that they’re a budget summer glove.
It would have been nice if there was some level of water resistance or quick drying feature but when you consider the low price it would be very unfair to criticize the gloves based on this.
Safety
Safety is easily the most important part of any motorcycle glove and this is where the Joe Rocket Velocity 2.0 gloves completely let me down.
Given that the gloves are a budget product you wouldn’t expect the protection to be amazing but really what Joe Rocket has designed simply isn’t good enough for use as a motorcycle glove.
The one positive is that I liked the reinforced finger tips but really not much of the hand is protected other than the finger tips which is silly really.
On the top side of the hand there is some protection but coverage of this protection is disappointing.
I’d imagine if you were to have a serious crash wearing these gloves they really wouldn’t protect you well.
To top off the disappointment the grip is pretty useless too. Simply disgraceful for a pair of motorcycle gloves.
To be honest the level of protection offered by the Joe Rocket Velocity 2.0 gloves is borderline dangerous.
I would recommend any other Joe Rocket gloves over these and maybe you should consider spending more money on a higher end brand.
Final Thoughts
You get what you would expect for the price.
A pretty cheap fairly bad pair of gloves. In my opinion the Joe Rocket Velocity 2.0 gloves aren’t fit for motorcycling.
They’re dangerous. Perhaps they would be okay to be used for something else like dirt biking given that they do offer some protection and they’re very comfortable but for motorcycling or other potentially dangerous activities the protection isn’t anywhere near as good as it needs to be.
Overall an incredibly disappointing glove from Joe Rocket which as I started, look as good as they are – pretty awful.
