The 5 Best Hand Warmers From Amazon (That Aren’t Gloves)

March 8, 2017 by Leave a Comment

When I say hand warmers from Amazon a lot of different things can come to mind but usually the first thing people think of is a pair of gloves.

I’m okay with that because most of the time gloves are the best option and I’ve reviewed a lot of gloves here, heated and non heated.

Today I’m not going to talk about gloves. I’ll be talking about different ways to warm your hands because you might not know this but there’s a lot of cool little gadgets out there that are designed to keep your hands warm for times when you don’t want to wear gloves.

And no I’m not talking about holding your hands close to the radiator for warmth like in the picture.

Why Wouldn’t You Just Wear Gloves?

If you’re reading this article I can only assume that you already understand the need for hand warmers rather than gloves and that’s probably why you ended up here.

If that’s the case, just skip down to 5 best products because this next bit of information is going to be an explanation of why you wouldn’t just wear gloves.

Some activities require the sensitive touch or dexterity that you just can’t get when you wear a pair of gloves. No matter how thin or sensitive a pair of gloves might be, nothing compares to direct contact with the skin.

Then there’s the people who just don’t like to wear gloves. Some people don’t want to wear gloves because of the way they look. Maybe they don’t go with an outfit or a style, or maybe they just don’t fit well with your tough image.

Whatever it is, there’s a lot of reasons or activities where someone might want hand warmers instead of gloves. Here’s a few I came up with off the top of my head.

  • hunting
  • photography
  • acting/modeling in cold weather
  • outdoor sports
  • rock climbing
  • camping
  • fishing
  • Raynaud’s
  • writing
  • painting/art
  • working with tools

That’s just a quick list that I came up with but in reality there are so many more.

In addition to keeping your hands warm a lot of the electric rechargeable hand warmers are multipurpose. They often have a built in flashlight or USB port to charge your device just like a power bank.

So now you have a pretty good idea why these things are selling like hotcakes right now. They really are handy little gadgets to have and the great thing is that all of the hand warmers on my list can be bought from Amazon.

5. HotPod USB Pocket Hand Warmer

This is what I’d call your starter hand warmer. It’s really small and compact which is nice and it’s also very reasonably priced.

It comes with the handy little sleeve which is nice and makes it a great gift or stocking stuffer.

It charges up with a USB cord and you can charge it with a wall charger or into a laptop or desktop computer. Charge time is about 7 hours with a wall charger but I imagine it’s quite a bit more if you use a computer.

It warms up to about 113°F and lasts about 4 hours, that’s quite a bit of heat for such a small unit.

You won’t get the flashlight or the ability to use it as a power bank like some of the other ones on the market but considering it’s so small and so cheap you really can’t go wrong. Click here for pricing.

4. EnergyFlux Ellipse Rechargeable Hand Warmer

This EnergyFlux hand warmer is the complete package. In addition to being a hand warmer it also has a USB port for charging your devices and it can charge an iphone twice on one full charge.

The heat output is pretty good too as it warms up to 118°F on the high setting and 107°F on the low setting and you should get around 6.5 hours of heat on the low setting and 5 or so on the high setting.

Charge time is anywhere from 4.5 – 6 hours.

This one doesn’t have a flashlight but you have the option to upgrade to that if you don’t mind adding a little more size and weight. Without the flashlight it’s 4.8 oz and with the flashlight it’s 6.94 oz. Click here for pricing.

3. Zippo Hand Warmer

These things have been around for a long long time. They were definitely the first hand warmers on the market by a long shot and as much as I love them, they do have their downfalls.

I wrote a complete review of this hand warmer so you can get all the details there if you want more info. For now I’ll just give you the highlights.

The best thing about this hand warmer is that it lasts up to 12 hours. You just fill it with lighter fluid and light it, then it will provide you with warmth for an entire day or night.

That’s way longer than any electric hand warmer out there by far. The problem is that you can’t turn it off. So once you’ve lit it you just have to wait until the fluid runs out.

This is no big deal cause fluid is cheap but it is something to know before you buy one. Click here for pricing.

2. The Outdoors Way Hand Warmer

This hand warmer has it all. Heat, a flashlight and the ability the charge your devices.

It has two heat settings. Low will get up to 105°F and high will get up to 115°F so this thing has some good output.

The flashlight is 55 lm with an SOS strobe feature as well.

At 6.88 oz this one is slightly lighter weight than the EnergyFlux and slightly thinner too so you get all the benefits of the EnergyFlux in a smaller package.

It also lasts up to 7 hours on the low setting which is pretty impressive given the size of it. This is a really good option. Click here for pricing.

1. DefrostLabs Hand Warmer

This hand warmer from DefrostLabs is the Cadillac of hand warmers. It’s not much bigger than The Outdoors Way warmer but it packs more of a punch.

The two settings will get you 110°F on low and  a whopping 140°F on the high setting. This thing gets crazy hot. You won’t burn yourself on it but you might be more comfortable with a sleeve on it.

Of course it comes equipped with a LED flashlight and the ability to charge your devices as well.

It will heat up anywhere from 4 to 7 hours depending on the setting but most of the time you’ll only need the low setting so you should be able to get closer to 7 hours.

The USB port will allow you to charge any device and you can charge an iphone up to three times with this thing.

When you take into account price, size and performance this is my top pick for hand warmers from Amazon. Click here for pricing.
