Overview
The FirstGear Kilimanjaro Gloves are a mid-range all weather motorcycle glove.
These gloves are an improved version of an old model.
FirstGear claims to have improved the fit and styling of the gloves as well as maintaining the levels of protection that the Kilimanjaro series of gloves is renowned for.
At first glance the gloves look like good quality and they’re a nice looking glove style wise.
They come in one color, black. It might have been nice if there was a small variety of colors but really black can fit into any color scheme.
The Kilimanjaro Gloves initially appear to be pretty good value for money but I’m going to put them to the test to see if they truly are as good as the Firstgear Rider gloves.
Comfort + Dexterity
The Kilimanjaro gloves aren’t particularly bulky gloves meaning that they allow for really good dexterity. Finger movement is in no way restricted meaning the gloves will never put you at risk due to restricted movement.
One of the best features of the FirstGear Kilimanjaro is how comfortable it is to wear.
The inner lining of the glove feels very nice against the skin which makes them a pleasure to wear. In addition to this these gloves feature a massive hook and loop gauntlet meaning that the glove is kept secure and in place on your hands.
When fitted correctly there’s no chance of the glove moving around thanks to the huge gauntlet strap that holds them in place.
I found that the sizing of the gloves is very true to size but if you’re unsure what size to order you should have a look at our sizing guide.
Warmth
Being an all weather glove the FirstGear Kilimanjaro gloves aren’t the warmest around but they do provide you with some warmth.
They are absolutely perfect riding in mild temperatures at around spring or fall.
The warmth of the glove however isn’t enough to be completely comfortable in winter, therefore I would recommend that in colder temperatures the Kilimanjaro Gloves should be worn with a liner glove.
Although this isn’t ideal it shouldn’t be seen as a bad thing as in my opinion it’s almost impossible to make the perfect all weather glove which is why we often need multiple pairs.
In summer some people online have said the FirstGear Kilimanjaro glove can be a little too warm and although I wasn’t using them on an very warm day I could see how this could be true because my hands were perfect and it was around 54°F (12°C).
As I said previously no glove can be perfect for every scenario.
Water Resistance
The FirstGear Kilimanjario Gloves are very waterproof. I used them in fairly reasonable rain and my hands remained completely dry.
But what is more important for me personally is that these gloves are very breathable, meaning that my hands were never too warm or sweaty.
However in summer no matter how breathable the gloves are I feel my hands would begin to get too warm.
With that being said, for mild or slightly cooler conditions the FirstGear Kilimanjaro Gloves are perfect based on their water resistance and breathability. Especially when you consider the reasonable price.
Safety
Although the FirstGear Kilimanjaro aren’t completely packed with a variety of safety features what the gloves do have are very good.
The Kilimanjaro gloves sport a full leather, highly durable palm. This gives the gloves additional practicality as well as protection.
The grip is very good, even in wet weather and the leather feels very strong so if you were to fall off your bike there would be no chance of the gloves tearing due to friction with the road or other surface.
The main piece of protection included with the gloves is the carbon fiber inset knuckle protectors. Although common in many motorcycling gloves these feel especially good.
The protectors have good coverage of the knuckles providing perfect protection. It’s also very nice that the knuckle protectors don’t make the gloves too bulky or uncomfortable.
Final Thoughts
The FirstGear Kilimanjaro gloves are fantastic value for money. They perform relatively well in all sections but they’re not incredible at anything.
Really you get what you pay for. After all this is a mid range priced glove and so it’d be unreasonable to expect the Kilimanjaro gloves to be perfect at everything.
But when you consider that the gloves performed very well in comfort and dexterity. Warmth was the only section where they didn’t perform quite to expectations but they were still decent.
Just sometimes during the middle of summer or the middle of winter the gloves won’t be the best option. But again the gloves excel with regards to water resistance and safety making the FirstGear Kilimanjaro a good option for a reasonably priced, decent quality glove.
