Gone are the days when snow sleds were only made with kids in mind.
I think this is a past time that most adults overlook but thanks to a few forward thinking companies there are now snow sleds adults will absolutely fall in love with.
I’ve compiled a list of the 3 best snow sleds for adults and you’re going to be amazed by them.
Quick Answer: 3 Best Snow Sleds For Adults
I know I usually talk about gloves here and I’m still doing that but I also love to write about any activities where winter gloves are required. Don’t worry though because I’ll still be reviewing plenty of winter gloves.
Back to sleds.
Now that we’re all grown up there are certain factors that we really value in a snow sled and personally I’m not willing to compromise on any of them.
Speed, control and weight. In that order.
First and foremost I want my ideal sled to be fast. I’m not out there looking for a relaxing afternoon, I want adrenaline and the best way to get that is to go really really fast.
Control is another important factor when selecting a sled because the more control you have, the faster you can go without putting your safety at risk.
I want a sled that can stop or turn on a dime whether it’s deep fluffy powder or hard packed ice.
Weight is important too. As we all know, to get to the top of the hill or mountain you often have to walk and carry your sled.
This can be tiring and if you have a heavy sled you’ll probably get fewer runs in due to fatigue.
With a lightweight sled you can carry or tow it with ease and get more runs in as a result.
Now for the meat of this article. Here’s my 3 top sleds for adults. Number 1 is my personal favorite.
3. Mad River Rocket

This is an award winning slow sled. It was ranked one of the top 5 snow sleds by the Wall Street Journal.
It was featured in The New York Times, ABC News, Fox, Ski Magazine, Popular Science and Yankee Magazine.
It goes without saying but this is an awesome sled.
It’s made in the USA so you know it’s going to be high quality and of course it comes with a great warranty and return policy.
It’s made of strong plastic with foam pads for your knees and a strong nylon strap with velcro to hold the sled tight to your legs which gives you full control without worrying about it flying out from under you.
Have you ever been knee boarding on water behind a boat? That’s very similar to the way this sled feels.
You can strap your knees in two different ways. One way is putting the strap over your calf so that when you sit down you’re sitting on the strap like this.
The second way to use the strap is to kneel down on the knee pads and pull the strap over your thighs like in the picture below.
Both of these methods are effective but I much prefer the first way because it allows you to move up and down freely so that you have more control of the sled.
On the bottom of the sled there are two skis that the board slides on which allows you to carve through the snow and control the steering pretty well and it also allows you to stop quickly.
To stop you have to make a hard turn just like you would with skis or ice skates which does require some practice but all in all its pretty easy.
A lot of people really like the fact that you’re sitting in an upright position with this sled. Being upright allows you to be comfortable and relaxed while steering by shifting your weight from side to side.
The downside to sitting upright like that is it reduces the speed.
Of course you’ll be less aerodynamic while sitting up and that will slow things down a bit. With that being said, this is still a really fast sled.
The price of this depends on where you buy it but I’ve found that Amazon is usually the cheapest.
Overall this is my 3rd favorite sled on the market.

The Airboard sled is a very pleasant surprise in the world of high performance sledding because it doesn’t really look like anything special since the design is all about function and not fashion.
As you can see it simply looks like an inflatable water toy that a child would play with in the pool.
This couldn’t be more wrong. Yes it’s inflatable but that only means that it’s super lightweight so you barely even notice it when you’re carrying it up the hill.
It weighs practically nothing. Not only that but you can deflate it and pack it up in a backpack for easy storage or transportation.
It’s by far the best sled in terms of portability but it’s definitely no slouch in the performance category.
You lie down on your stomach head first and you hold onto the two handles at the front.
You steer by leaning from one side to the other and you’ll be surprised just how well this thing actually handles.
Most inflatable sleds handle really poorly because the bottom is so slick that you can’t control them at all but the Airboard has special tracks on the bottom that allow you to steer without slowing you down.
These tracks not only give you steering control but they also give you the ability to stop pretty effectively.
Much like the mad river rocket you have to turn quickly and sharply to stop similar to skiing or ice skating. You’ll be impressed with how well it works and how quickly you can learn.
So that covers control and weight so now I want to talk about speed.
This thing RIPS down the hill. It is so fast you will not even believe it.
The first time I tried it I was laughing so hard because I was surprised and scared all at the same time. It truly is an adrenaline rush.
If speed is the only thing you care about and you just want to get to the bottom of the hill faster than anybody else, you should buy this sled.
In addition to being really fast the Airboard is really great for taking jumps too.
Since it’s full of air it acts as a cushion for your landing and you can take some pretty huge air without getting the wind knocked out of you.
I was a little concerned about the thing popping when I landed but it’s really strong. It’s designed to hold up to 308 pounds.

1. Hammerhead Pro

So here it is, the number 1 ranked sled for adults. The Hammerhead.
This sled has it all so you don’t need to compromise on anything.
It’s extremely lightweight, fast and agile. Basically it’s the best way to get from the top of the mountain to the bottom.
If there were professional sledding races or competitions this would be the sled of choice for all the pros without a doubt.
You lie down on your stomach face first much like the Airboard but with the Hammerhead you use your hands to steer rather than your entire body.
There are rubber handles on the front two skis that you turn side to side and it steers the sled extremely well.
The steering is actually one of the major highlights of this sled because it’s just so sensitive. It’s actually so sensitive that it takes a bit of practice but once you get the hang of it you have perfect control of it.
You can actually carve down the mountain and easily keep up with skiers or snowboarders. It’s truly a work of art.
It’s made of an aluminum frame with polycarbonate skis which makes it strong and light weight.
Your body weight is resting on a suspended nylon bed that has just enough stretch to it that it acts as suspension so that you don’t feel the bumps and you can hit the big jumps without concern.
When comparing it to the Airboard you have to understand that you’re getting something completely different.
The Airboard is a little lighter and maybe even a little faster in a straight line but that’s it.
If there’s and turns, bumps or obstacles in your path the Hammerhead is a much better option to have. It will make you feel as though you’re an expert sledder because that’s what it was built for.
There is no other sled that can match it’s combination of speed, weight and control and that’s why it’s my #1 pick.
