Mountain Made Gloves Overview
The Mountain Made Outdoor Gloves are a low cost, sporty and stylish outdoor glove.
Designed with style in mind the gloves look the part and my initial thoughts were that they appears to be pretty high quality.
They look very well made and it’s difficult to ignore how good they look. The Outdoor Gloves come in two colors, black and pink, as the gloves are aimed at both men and women.
Upon first wearing the gloves, taking into consideration the fairly low cost they feel incredibly good value for money.
Comfort
One of the highlights of the Mountain Made Outdoor Gloves are their tight yet comfortable fit.
The gloves are made of 88% polyester, 6% spandex and 6% PVC rubber which makes the glove very flexible and stretchy.
As a consequence of this it feels as though the gloves mold your hand which is a delight.
Not only is the fit of the glove very comfortable but the material also feels pleasant on the skin. They do lack an elasticated cuff however, which personally I always prefer on a glove.
To make up for this the cuff has a zipper to secure the glove in place. This prevents too much heat from escaping the glove and no cold air or winds can enter.
Although from reading about other people’s opinions on the glove online it appears that some people have had issues with the zipper claiming that it breaks quite easily.
Although this didn’t happen to me if it does happen a non functioning zipper effectively writes the gloves off as useless so this is potentially something to be weary of.
Warmth
Mountain Made’s Outdoor Gloves aren’t designed to be the warmest around due to them being a relatively thin glove designed to give you maximum finger movement and grip.
The gloves do provide some warmth however they shouldn’t be worn alone if all you want is warm hands.
These gloves are designed to be more of an extra layer to protect your hands when doing lightweight work or simply to prevent blisters when doing physical activity such as cycling or rowing.
Therefore although the gloves aren’t recommended to be worn in temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius this isn’t too much of an issue seeing as it’s not what they were designed for.
But if all you’re looking for is a thin pair of gloves that do provide some warmth but predominantly just a thin layer of protection for your hands then the Mountain Made Gloves might be for you.
Water Resistance
Complete waterproofing isn’t something that features on the Mountain Made Outdoor Gloves which is a shame really because if they were these just might have been the perfect outdoor active wear lifestyle glove.
Despite this from personal experience I can say that the gloves do have water resistant properties.
I used the gloves while on a short cycle ride during rain. When I reached my destination my hands were wet but they weren’t soaked as you’d expect from non waterproof gloves.
Therefore not a total disaster for water resistance but I’m fairly disappointed to be honest because other than it’s lack of waterproofing I really like the glove.
Features
The Mountain Made gloves are touch screen friendly meaning you won’t have to take them off to use devices which is a helpful feature that to be honest you’d expect from a glove of this style but it’s a good feature nevertheless.
One feature that is important for me is that the gloves are designed to be quick drying. In my option this partially makes up for the lack of water resistance.
The gloves’ quick drying lining means that no matter how soaked you are one evening you can be sure that they will be dry come the morning, which if you’re doing say an expedition somewhere over multiple days it’s a blessing to be able to wake up with dry clothes having been soaked the day before.
Coupled with this point that the glove is suitable for extended use is that during manufacture the glove undergoes anti-bacteria treatment meaning that no matter how sweaty your hands have been or how damp they’ve got after taking them off and leaving from for a few hours they won’t smell at all due to the anti-bacterial properties. – much like that of Merino wool.
Final Thoughts
The Mountain Made Outdoor gloves are almost perfect for someone who is looking for a more athletic styled glove.
The glove provides a layer of protection for your hands and a little warmth although given the sleek, thin design the heat retention may not always be good enough.
The main downside to the glove is the lack of waterproofing but the fact the gloves are both quick drying and antibacterial definitely partially make up for this.
The perfect glove for someone looking for something a little less bulky.
