Comfort + Warmth
At first glance the Gerbing Mountain Sport heated gloves look like a high quality glove and this certainly is the case when it comes down to comfort and warmth.
The gloves are in fact made with winter adventures such as snowmobiling, skiing and snowboarding in mind and so this alone is a good reason to be confident that the gloves are plenty warm.
The Gerbing Mountain Sport heated gloves are made up of many layers which in turn trap air and so this aids the heat retention qualities.
The very inner lining is made from a tricot fabric (much like other Gerbing S3 gloves) which makes the gloves feel very nice on the skin and a pleasure to wear.
The next layer up is then a nylon shell to give the glove some structure as well as providing another layer of warmth in addition to the durable outer layer.
The gloves are also heated by a 7v lithium battery so if the glove itself isn’t warm enough alone do not fear! For the heating system will give the glove that edge in extreme conditions, ensuring that your hands remain at a comfortable temperature.
For comfort I’m giving these gloves a 17/20 and for warmth I’m giving them a 17/20.
Following on from a good performance in the comfort and warmth category the Mountain Sport Gloves are completely waterproof.
This is essential as I’d imagine you’re likely to be using the gloves for winter sports or in cold and probably wet conditions in general.
The glove’s waterproof qualities are pretty flawless. The only part where they slightly let me down is that the waterproof layer does slightly decrease the breathability of the gloves but when you consider the cost of the glove it’s still a very strong performance in the area.
One thing that the gloves do very well is that despite the many many layers to aid heat retention and for waterproofing the gloves aren’t bulky at all.
These are a glove that won’t reduce dexterity which is always very important in all of the intended uses for the glove.
For water resistance I’m giving them a 19/20.
They aren’t a top, top end glove so it’s important to consider that it won’t be the best quality around.
But when you think about quality in relation to the price bracket of the gloves you simply can’t fault them. The gloves are very durable and will easily endure the stress put upon them when doing the intended activities of snowmobiling, skiing or snowboarding.
Gerbing has also got it spot on in their description of the gloves that they are ready for wind and snow. I used the gloves in blustery, icy conditions and my hands were plenty warm, proving that they’re good value for money.
There’s no thrills or special features when it comes to these gloves but they do the basics well which is why I’m giving them a 16/20 in this category.
A 7v battery is what is used to power the Coreheat system of the Gerbing Mountain Sport heated gloves and to be honest it performs really well.
You can get up to 8 hours of heat out of the Coreheat system allowing you to conquer the day regardless of how extreme the temperatures may be.
The charging time as with most batteries is an expected 1-2 hours. When you combine the battery life and warmth of the Coreheat system with the number of heat retaining properties the glove itself has, the total set up is guaranteed to ensure that your hands are warm enough.
I’m giving them a 18/20 in this category.
They’re exactly true to size which always makes choosing sizes that bit easier.
The gloves feature a wrist strap to ensure that the gloves can be held tightly in place on your wrist and so preventing any sliding of the gloves which is the last thing you’ll want when doing winter activities.
If you have any questions or concerns about what size you should order just have a look at our sizing guide.
This glove really goes back to the basics.
The Gerbing Mountain Sport heated gloves have nothing special about them but they perform very well at the basic requirements of a heated gloves and this makes them a perfect option if you don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for a pair of gloves.
Their intended uses are for snowmobiling, skiing and snowboarding and they’d be absolutely perfect for any of these activities.
A fantastic value for money glove. I would recommend these to anyone with confidence that they will meet your expectations.
